Our Process

Project Establishment

We begin each architectural design project with an arranged site visit and meeting. Here’s where we note your site’s conditions and features, take measurements, photos and discuss your project brief in greater detail to help us determine the scope of architectural services required. In addition, we’ll discuss what other specialist input may be necessary for regulatory compliance and provide you with our offer of service as part of formalising our Agreement for Architectural Services with you. More importantly, we will discuss your proposed budget and give you an initial estimation of build cost and an overview of our fee structure.

Concept Design

This is where the exciting stuff begins to happen,  and our skills as Architectural Designers come to forefront.  As information is transferred from the previous phase, models, sketches, and plans are designed.  This is often where budgets are re-confirmed as the project brief becomes more visual, and planning considerations evolve in preparation for the next phase.

Preliminary Design

During this phase we dive right in to develop the approved Concept Design towards a more refined final design. Here’s where we focus on implementing our design solution strategies required to draw up the site plan, floor plan, elevations, service plans etc., that you will need to see and tweak. At the conclusion of this phase a resource consent may be necessary.

Detailed Design / Construction Drawings

When it comes to the detailed design phase, the focus is on preparing a full set of highly detailed and accurate drawings, specifications, construction information and schedules. Notably, most of the highly detailed work is done here before the Building Consent application can be prepared. The project brief is reviewed, and any changes made that affect the overall budget are worked through with you. We make sure you are updated on the status of your project at every phase of the process.
